Greetings golfers,

I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the weekly newsletter, bringing you up-to-date with all the latest news and gossip.

Competition results

Ladies Brabant Cup

Congratulations to Sarah Hernon who won the Brabant Cup; she had a fantastic score of nett 72. In second place was Sue Arnold, she unfortunately lost on countback to Sarah as she scored a nett 72.

Well done to both of you.

EG Medal Winners

The winner of Division three was Vera Favis with a good score of nett 73. The winner of the scratch prize was Helena McCannah with a score of nett 74. The lowest gross score went to Jacquie Gauntly with a score of nett 74.

Congratulations to Margaret Ferguson who recorded a two on the 14th hole, she holed her second shot for an eagle.

Any Combination 9 hole Stableford

Congratulations to Gilly Branson who won the 9 hole stableford with a fantastic score of 27 points. In second place was Robert Oscroft with a score of 20 points. Finally in third place was Alastair Petit with a score of 19 points.

Another congratulations to Robert Oscroft who scored a two on the 2nd hole.

Any Combination 18 hole Stableford

Congratulations to Paul Moulds who won the 18 hole stableford with a fantastic score of 42 points. In second place was David Machin with a score of 40 points. Finally in third place was Bill Spence with a score of 37 points.

Men's Saturday Medal and Divisional Finals

The winner of Division one was Shaun Bullin who scored a nett 67. In second place was David Hughes with a nett 69 and in third place was Matthew Goulding with a nett 69. 

The winner of Division three was David Pipes who scored a nett 69. In second place was Robert Sharp with a nett 70 and in third place was Brian Geeson with a nett 71.

Finally the winner of Division three was Christopher Chrystal who scored a nett 69. In second place was Len Hickling with a nett 71 and in third place was Tom Bagshaw with a nett 72.

Ladies results

Well done to Judy Clifford who won the Silver Division with 37 points. The winner of the Bronze Division was Dot Oldham with 39 points and the winner of Division three was Jackie Cameron with 35 points.

What a great finish at The Open; Jordan Spieth and Matt Kuchar played some unbelievable golf under intense pressure and how Spieth came back to finish like he did shows incredible nerve and mental strength.

 
 
 
That's got some face on it

It’s hard not to be in awe of the putting we see on TV, especially when the world’s best are competing for a major like at last week’s Open Championship. How do you compare?

You will have heard us mention the importance of the ‘scoring zone’ on various occasions, but we can’t stress enough just how vital this area is to lowering your scores. Take a close look at these up-and-down charts below:

As you can see from the statistics here, the best players in the world rely on having good short games when they find themselves out of position.

While having great technique is certainly very important for this, and we can help with that, so is having an evenly gapped wedge set-up that gives you an option from every possible situation.
