It was a great weekend up at the club with the county amateur and senior matchplay being played, the first and second rounds on Saturday followed by the Semi Final and the Final being played on Sunday. The overall winner was Tom Cumberland from Coxmoor who beat Jake Benson from Beeston on the last hole, and the Seniors was won by Colin Maber who beat Neil Martin. Stanton's only player Charles Banks unfortunately was beaten in the semi finals.
Unfortunately, there were one or two grumbles that the course was closed to the members for the majority of the weekend, but it's only once every 10 or 12 years and we should be proud to be host compeitions like this, and there were plenty of courtesy rounds at other courses available. I do apologise for any inconvenience caused however.
The course however was in great shape for the compeition, Dan the Greenskeeper was a little frustrated on Friday after the downpours we had, but in the end it didn't leave any lasting damage and the greens were as quick as you'd want them to be.
On Saturday it's the Captain's day which is always a great day not just for the captain but everyone up at the club. Carol and the ladies had a good day on Tuesday. The weather was fabulous and some good golf was played followed by a prize presentation in the evening. We'd like to wish Andrew all the best for his day and hope he enjoys it.
Lady Captain's Day
This took place on the 1st of July,
Nearest the Pin was on the 5th hole which was won by Julia Furlonger - 1.98 metres.
Straightest Drive was on the 9th won by Marion Finch with 13 inches.
Putting Competition was won by Louise Spray with 16 putts
The afternoon waltz was won by Di Hardwick, Judy Clifford and Margaret Slater with 37 points.
The Seniors latest matches are as follows:
Kirby Muxloe away 1 - 7
Glen Gorse away 3 - 5
Scraptoft home 3.5 - 4.5
Three defeats on the trot this is not good enough, but the seniors Captain has been away for these matches and assures me things will get back on the winning track now he's back!!
Seniors Open
The Seniors open was held last Wednesday and went well, the weather was great, the course was good and there was plenty of good golf. Richard Pilkington and Ken Brown from Wollaton Park and Notts won Group A with a score of 44pts and Group B was won by B Whitchurch and P Smith from Radcliffe on Trent and Notts with 42pts.

As we touched on earlier about the state of the course we have been doing some stimpmeter readings which most of you will have heard of. This last week or so we've been getting readings between 11-12, and on Wednesday had a reading of 12.6 which is as fast as you will see at most European Tour events, only events like The Masters and the US Open get the speed above 13. Due to the greens being reletavly flat the greenstaff can make the greens this quick and they are still enjoyable, if they were that quick at a course with very undulating greens your putting would really be tested.
