This weekend we had the Texas Scramble which as you can imagine always sees some low scores. Graham Baker, Saul Gray, Maurice Hume and Barry Dawson were the winners in the Gents Division with a score of 57.0. Jane Harby, Michael Harby, Gerald Timmans and Angus Gray won the mixed division with 59.9. It's always a great fun format and we think it's been a great decision having more of them on the bank holidays this year. One correction from last week's newsletter, we told you Stuart Robinson and Richard Pulley won the seniors open at Kirby Muxloe, we should have said it was at Scraptoft, again well played guys.
The inter-club foursomes team played their semi-final match against Sherwood at Norwood, and unfortunately they lost narrowly but have had a great run to get to the semi 's.
As we mentioned last week, the new PING G30 has just been launched and is now in stock, it has already proved popular here and we are looking forward to hearing how the brand new technology works for those who have invested. We still do have some stock of the G25 at reduced prices so come in and have a look and grab a bargain.
Myself and Andrew had a Captain Pro Challenge on Sunday morning against the Dan the Head Greens keeper and Shaun. We had a good fun game but unfortunately came second! Well done to them.
Henry was away playing at Birstall on Thursday and Friday in the Midland open, he shot rounds of 75 and 72 which left him mid table, he said he played solid over the two days but didn't take advantage on the greens as he'd have liked to. He currently sits 30th in the Midlands Order of Merit.
On the course we have the cross country challenge on Friday evening which will no doubt be eventful! The course will be closed from 3:00pm to set it up.
On Saturday it's the Green staff competition which will be a Greensome stableford, then on Sunday we have the Hilton Trophy so a busy weekend again!
This weekend it's the final major of the year so I'm sure most people will be glued to the TV. Rose, Garcia, and McIlroy are all playing some great golf at the minute so I wouldn't be surprised if the winner came from one of them.
What is the weak point of your game? Driving? Short putting? No doubt you have an answer. But how do you know?
For most club golfers, their answer will be based on a hunch. But ask a tour pro the same question and he can back his answer up with cold, hard figures.
Stat gathering may not sound the most exciting exercise, but it can have a very positive effect on your game. Truly know your strengths and weaknesses and you can start to work on the parts of your game that need it most. After all, as Lee Trevino said, golf is about making your worst shot better.
We'll be happy to discuss your best approach to game analysis. But for a simple start, chart your performance on par 3s, 4s and 5s for the next month. Compare the results to find out which type of your hole is weakest. Once you know that, you can begin to target your practice accordingly. And that's really going to speed up your progress.
