TaylorMade have arrived...

Another week, another new brand has arrived for the 2019 season. We now have the new TaylorMade M5 and M6 drivers, fairway woods and hybrids and driving irons and an iron fitting kit now in-store.

- Speed injected face

The driver head has been individually calibrated to reach the threshold of the maximum legal limit of ball speed. So, whether you’re fighting for your club championship or battling it out in your weekend four ball, you’ll be playing with a driver that’s engineered to make everybody faster.

- Twist Face technology

The revolutionary face curvature with a self-corrective face angle face for off centre hits. Engineered to deliver straighter shots, reduce spin and provide more forgiveness in your miss-hits. Longer and straighter with twist face.

The Spider X putter

Spider X revolutionises the way to achieve optimal stability and alignment by reengineering the mass properties of the head and introducing a new optically engineered True Path alignment system. This putter really is conquering the market as more and more tour players turn to it and improve their putting.

The GAPR

GAPR introduces a new category of golf club, designed to fill the gap between your longest playable iron and your shortest wood. The club is filled with speed foam technology, which has been injected into each club head to enhance ball speed and feel - delivering performance unlike any other utility club.

Competition news

Captain/Pro matches

The Captain and Pro Sunday morning matches are starting again now. If you and a playing partner would like to take the Captain and myself on, get your name down on the notice board in the clubhouse. Our first match was last Sunday against Jim & Ellen Manton. It was a great morning golf and company wise, we had a great time and the score was close all the way but we just managed to win the last hole for a one up win.

The Seniors lost this week 2.5 / 5.5 at home to Kibworth so that’s one win and one defeat so far this season. The Ladies Tasker matches are now under way and I will try to get some results for you in next week’s newsletter.

Don't neglect your #3

A driver is a powerful beast, sometimes too powerful if a hole has a hazard within range. In this scenario, you have a plethero of options to choose from, but there is one that is often overlooked.

Picture the scene

You're stood on a par-4 tee box and there’s a water hazard 240 yards away.

What do you do?

Many of you will reach for your longest iron on auto-pilot, however a custom-fitted fairway wood might just be the perfect solution; getting you further down the hole and closer to the green.

Why is this often overlooked?

A lot of golfers don't have confidence in hitting their fairway wood because, quite simply, they don't use it enough. But with technology to help you hit them better - such as a Tungsten weight in PING's G410 fairway wood that increases forgiveness - it's time you gave them another go.

More to it than you think...

Long gone are the days of wearing uncomfortable metal spikes on a flat leather outsole - although there is something weirdly special about those classic golf shoes. Anyway, technology has advanced for the better in recent years with a huge focus on improving traction and stability.

Skechers Mojo Elite golf shoe

Spikeless shoes still have a false perception attached to them that they're only suitable for summer golf, which may have been the case several years ago but times have changed.

Take this extremely popular Mojo Elite model for example; its GripFlex outsole has strategically placed lugs and flexible teeth for superior traction, whilst minimising turf damange.

So, instead of having six or eight large cleats offering traction, this spikeless model from Skechers has countless smaller lugs doing the same job for year-round use.
