Welcome to this week's edition to Stanton on the Wolds Golf Club's weekly newsletter. We hope that you're having a good week both on and off the golf course.

Club news

Well, what a few days here at Stanton...

The beginning of the week saw some lovely hot summer weather which was every golfers dream. To Thursday which saw our Thursday Stableford cancelled due to extreme weather conditions, a mixture of thunder, lighting rain and hail made the golf course unplayable within minutes.

The car park was covered in hail stones. If anyone would like to have a look, there is a video on the clubs twitter page. All competition entries will be refunded onto the club card and if you entered the twos this will be rolled over onto Saturday’s competition.

The Ladies played Coxmoor this Friday in a great match which finished 2-2. A fair result in a very wet and windy round of golf to say the least. The scratch team beat Springwater at home 4 ½ to ½ in another match. Well done lads, great result. A big thankyou and well done to junior member Tom Bagshaw who filled in last-minute and he won his game 6&5. Very impressive for a boy of his age to be winning points in Nottinghamshire Men’s Scratch League. This week will see The Nott’s golf alliance visit Beeston fields, good luck to all Stanton members taking part on Monday.

Thursday, 4 May the clubhouse will be closed as it’s being used as a local polling station bar area will be open as normal to all members.

Annual Spring Meeting

Next Saturday is the Annual Spring Meeting competition. Spaces are still available, if you’d like to play the start sheet is available online. Another win for the seniors this week they won 3&2 at Wollaton Park.

Lowest gross goes to Richard Mcloughlin with a very impressive gross score of 79. Well done Richard. The twos paid out £15 each on Saturday.

Silver Division: Zoe Scott - 87– 18- 69.

Bronze Division: Jackie Hathway - 95 – 23 = 72.

Divisions 3 & 4: Pearl Welsh - 104 – 33 = 71.

Captain/Pro's Challenge

Last week the Captain and I had another challenge match; this time against two ladies Jaquie Gauntly and Sandra Bradley Peter. I played fairly well scoring quite steadily but the two ladies played an unbelievable round between them finishing eight under par betterball when they finished us off on the 16th green. Well played ladies.
