Another week has gone, another busy week here at Stanton on the Wolds. At the start of the week, our men’s Scratch Team took on Radcliffe on Trent at home with some very exciting matches taking place. Junior member Tom Bagshaw who stepped in late notice won his match against an ex-golf professional, great result for Tom and the team. Well done guys!

Seb is looking for two players for the Oakmere Pro-Am on Tuesday, 13 August. It’s a shotgun start at 9am and the cost of the day is £45 which includes a BBQ after. It’s a two from four Medal format played in a very relaxed and enjoyable environment. If you’d like to play pop into the shop and speak to Seb.

Seniors match

After a very impressive start to the season for our senior's team, unfortunately, today they lost away at Wollaton Park 4-2 with some very close matches. Although, the result didn’t go to plan the seniors' team were very complimentary about the condition of the golf course.

Captains Day

This Saturday is Captain’s Day - the Captain is putting on a FREE competition for the members. There is also a 9-hole competition in the evening for the ladies as well. The prize presentation is at 7:30pm that evening which will be followed by a buffet and entertainment. If you’d like to play the start sheet is available online and tickets for the buffet and entertainment can be purchased behind the bar.

Putting things right

A classic piece of golfing attire is the club crested shirt, which is something we're able to offer you thanks to our friends at Glenmuir.

They've been creating stylish golf clothing since 1891 and specialise in the art of cresting; so much so that the European Ryder Cup team used them for every event between 1987 and 2014.

Are you focusing on the wrong thing?

As soon as the ball has left the putter face, we know whether it’s going to be good or not. It’s like a sixth sense, right? But what constitutes a good putt? Many golfers let the final outcome decide this – i.e. whether the ball ends up in the hole or not – but that is arguably well out of our control. So, perhaps it's time to refocus on what we can control?

There are only two things we can really control when it comes to putting. The first is starting the ball on the correct line. Take Tiger Woods for example; the 15-time major winner focuses on a blade of grass he wants the ball to roll over immediately in front of him, which brings the intended target much closer to impact.

The second is getting the ball rolling correctly, which means imparting top spin as quickly as possible after impact rather than having it jumping and skidding in the air.

One way to control our putting is by utilising the technology in Lynx's fantastic Prowler putters.
