Another busy week here at Stanton on the Wolds... Tuesday saw the Ladies section enjoy their Captains Day which was a very successful day. They had a holiday-themed competition which involved some members playing in what they’d wear on holiday. I’m not sure if anyone saw what Ellen Manton was wearing but I can safely say that I have never seen anyone play golf in a full swimsuit and flippers. If anyone had any photographs please let me know. Judy Burgin, this year’s Ladies Captain has put a lot of hard work and effort into the club this year as captain. I know all the lady members appreciate her hard work. On Thursday, the Combined team played Beeston Fields at Beeston. It was a very tight match, the Captain and Assistant Professional beat their Captain and partner on the 18th. Peter holed an impressive putt on 17 to keep the game at all square and then again on 18 for the win a very good match. The result ended 3-3. August fixtures are on the noticeboard if you’d like to play. Last Saturday was Captains Day. Captain Peter, put on a free competition for the members which was a Betterball Stableford 90% Handicap. The Captain also provided food and drinks for the members to enjoy. Hopefully, a bottle of beer after nine didn’t hinder your back-nine too much. On the 11th tee, we had European Tour long drive player Jordan Brooks hitting the tee shot on 11th for you. I saw him hit serval shots onto the green and even a couple over the green, which over 370 yards! Hopefully, everyone took advantage of this. I did hear of a couple of twos on 11 that day! If you’d like to see a video of Jordan hitting his driver on 11th, it’s available on our Twitter page. A lot of time and effort when into Captains Day, not only from the Captain himself but there are many volunteers behind the scenes who help out. So, from the Pro Shop, we would like to say a big thank you and well done to everyone involved. And of course, thank you to the members for your support throughout the day, a lot of money was raised for charity from the sale of raffle tickets and though entering the long drive on 11th. Competition results to follow.
