Captain's 3 Parks challenge |
For the captain's charity this year, Ian and Louise will be playing 3 rounds of golf, 54 holes - Rufford park - Oakmere Park and Wollaton Park for their chosen charity of the year on the 2nd September. The three rounds will be played in 24 hours and it is a one-off fundraising event that we hope our members will support. Donations can be made via this link https:/www.maggies.org/ All in support for Maggie's charity, a fantastic charity that offers support to people with cancer. A well worthy cause I'm sure you'll agree and we wish them all the best and hope lots of money can be raised!

The Nottinghamshire Alliance |
The NAPGA (The Nottinghamshire Amateur and Professional Golfers Alliance) run a series of competitions throughout the winter on courses all over Nottinghamshire. Clubs enter teams that consist of professionals and amateurs that compete for team and individual prizes. The season starts in September and continues through until May with a mid-winter break in December and January. There are 16 competitions usually held on Wednesday at roughly two-week intervals. The completion format is individual Stableford. There is a full handicap but the maximum allowance is 16, although a few players with higher handicaps participate. Individual scores are returned and the best four from each club are combined to give the team score. A team can consist of up to eight players including both professionals and amateurs. There are prizes for both teams and individual amateurs and professionals with prize tables around £650 for both pros and amateurs at each event. In addition, there are separate prizes and order of merit for senior players (over 60). There is an entry fee of £22 but no green fee. Players can choose at roughly what time they want to play and groups are made up of people from different clubs and the pros play in the same groups as amateurs. The courses played vary slightly from year to year as there are more participating clubs than fixtures, so this year Stanton is not on the list. You can see the list of fixtures and more about NAPGA on their website http://www.napga.co.uk/ This is a great chance to represent your club and play a wide range of courses for a very reasonable price. You meet a lot of nice, interesting people and see some great golf played by the pros and top amateurs. Those of us who have played really enjoy it. Unfortunately, the numbers from Stanton taking part fell drastically last year and we need new players to make participation a realistic effort. If you would be interested in taking part in these, please let us know in the Pro Shop, or by registering your interest via the button below as we need to have at least 4 people who can take part in the events.
If we don't get enough interest we cannot go forward with it as there is an administration fee.

Popov and DJ in leagues of their own There are sporting shocks, and then there’s the World No. 304 winning a Major! Germany’s Sophia Popov finished on -7 at Royal Troon to claim victory at the AIG Women’s Open. Despite having never won on the LPGA or Ladies European Tour before, the 27-year-old fought off challenges from stars like World No. 8 Minjee Lee and seven-time Major Champion Inbee Park. Meanwhile, on the PGA Tour, Dustin Johnson won The Northern Trust, the first FedEx Cup playoff event, by shooting a staggering -30. That ended up being an 11-stroke victory, which raises the age-old question of what’s more entertaining:
An all-out birdie fest or tough, battling golf? Shooting these sort of scores requires immense confidence in your game. So, if there's a part of yours that you're particularly struggling with, send us a message below and we'll be happy to help.
