We are all looking forward to the start of a new golf season, but the one downside to the return of the sun is the dastardly sight of thickening rough.
But it's here that the hybrid or utility club really earns its corn. Even the tangliest grass struggles to grab its sleek, rounded head, while its low-profile shape and weight distribution promote easy launch. From distance, the club can force the ball closer to the green than the short-iron alternative.
This is why we believe now is the ideal time to talk to us about the hybrids that should be in your bag - or even the ones that already are. Not only do we have some great options for you, all of which we personally endorse; we can also advise on aspects like lofts, custom-fit and how to blend hybrids with your existing irons.
Used properly, the hybrid can save you shots all summer. Get yours sorted now… and hit the ground running in 2014. Click here to visit my website and see some of the hybrids I have in my shop catalogue.
Captains Drive In
The Captains drive in went very well with Andrew and Carol hitting some good shots. The combined distance was measured at 374 yards. Well done also to Tom Davies who had the closest guess, and also to Richard Pell who was second closest. The weather was very different to last year when we had six inches of snow and a snowman on the tee. After the golf we were treated to a very nice spread of food and wine with over 100 people present.
Apologies
The next item on the agenda is to apologise to our new Lady Captain. As some of you may know I wished all the best for 2014 to Andrew and not Carol but Margaret (who I still wish all the best to) so my apologies to Carol. We also omitted the May Bowl win Carol and Maurice had last year, and while we're at it I wanted to remind you they also won the Presidents Cup last year. Hopefully I am forgiven now!!
Mens Competitions
The golf season starts this week for the Men with the Thursday medal on, surprisingly enough, Thursday, and the Saturday medal on Saturday. The first county event took place on Sunday the 23rd when they held the county trial at Stanton. The scoring was pretty mixed with the best score of the day a 72. The only Stanton player involved was Andy Cook who shot a 73. Henry and Tom played the latest alliance at Rufford Park last week, the greens were quite tricky, and both did reasonably well with Henry shooting 2 over finishing 3rd, and Tom finishing on 8 over.
Henry and I both entered teams in a pro am at Little Aston Golf Club last Friday, I was a little ring rusty, and finished 7 over. Henry played very well and was round in 1 over after starting with a treble bogey. Thanks to my team Vic Truman, Peter Hartley and Mike Winson.
Just a reminder that this is the last week you can purchase the new HydroLite golf shoe, and qualify to enter the draw to play in the PGA championship at Wentworth. Also we now have stock of the brand new DNA shoe which is a real winner and had recieved some fantastic reviews from the entire golfing community.
The Bridgestone balls are in and proving to be very popular. We do have a ball fitting day booked for April the 24th so call in and book a time, it only takes ten minutes and is completely FREE. We were busy again on the launch monitor with plenty of iron fits this week, so make sure you call in and book yourselves a fitting, or click here to request a fitting.
We have about 8 gents linned sweaters left in stock so we are clearing these at £29.99, a reduction of up to £30 a garrment, so grab yourselves a bargain.
Finally we have previously mentioned we were stocking the top of the range compression product by Pellham and Strutt. Well I gave it a try this week, and the product really works. It gives you a great posture and solid feel in your address position. The day I played, it was quite windy, but I did something I had not achieved before at Stanton before. I managed to drive the 11th which isn't bad for an old guy in his 50s. Call in and take it look, because if it works for me, it could for you.
